UFS 4.0 flash memory standard officially announced

On August 18, JEDEC (Solid State Storage Association) officially announced the JESD220F standard document, which is the official version of UFS 4.0 flash memory.

UFS stands for Universal Flash Storage, which represents a high-performance interface widely used in mobile computing platforms (cell phones, tablets, etc.). The new generation of UFS 4.0 follows the MIPI Alliance's common specifications for the interconnect layer, with the physical layer based on M-PHY v5.0 and the transport layer based on UniPro v2.0.

As a result, the interface bandwidth doubles to 23.2Gbps, allowing a maximum read and write speed of 4.2GB/s.

At the same time, UFS 4.0 introduces a new voltage specification of VCC=2.5V, which is more efficient than the previous 3.3V, i.e. more power-efficient.

In addition, the UFS 4.0 standard also has improvements in various aspects such as circular queuing, data security protection, error logging, lower latency, and backward compatibility with UFS 3.0/3.1.
