Take over from Microsoft: 0patch will continue to provide system maintenance for Win7

Previously, Microsoft has repeatedly warned users about the upcoming discontinuation of extended support for Win7 and reminded them to upgrade in time.

But now the Slovak company ACROS Security has announced that the platform they created and manage, 0patch, will take over the task of Win7 maintenance from Microsoft.

0patch is reportedly promising to provide at least two years of critical patch fixes for the Win7 codebase, thus extending the system's support period to around January 2025, and has said it can further extend the support period based on customer demand.

Of course, as a third-party platform, 0patch obviously cannot afford to provide regular and stable updates to the system, and its updates will only focus on vulnerabilities that are "serious enough and likely to be exploited" to ensure the basic security of user information.

However, for only about 10 percent of Win7 users, not making a lot of changes to the system is probably what they need.

It is worth mentioning that 0patch also emphasizes the advantages and continued viability of Win7 as an operating system.

0patch believes that Win7 is quite stable and does not force unnecessary upgrades or worsen the user experience through the ubiquitous advertising and telemetry data sent to Microsoft servers.
