iPhone 16 Pro images revealed: pixel bump from 12 to 48 megapixels

In the iPhone 14 Pro series, Apple upped the pixel count of the main camera lens from 12 to 48 megapixels, but the ultra-wide-angle lens remained at 12 megapixels.

Until the iPhone 15 Pro series, the 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens remained Apple's standard. However, according to media reports, this situation will be changed on the iPhone 16 Pro.

It is reported that the ultra wide-angle lens on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be upgraded to 48 megapixels. The main reason for Apple to significantly upgrade the ultra wide-angle pixels this time is to enable 4K spatial video recording on the iPhone.

Although its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro series, already supported recording spatial videos, the resolution was only 1080p. With the 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens on the iPhone 16 Pro series, the resolution of spatial videos will be upgraded to the 4K level.

When shooting space video, iPhone's main camera and ultra-wide-angle camera will record simultaneously. The system will automatically adjust the field of view captured by the ultra-wide-angle camera to match the main camera, and then synthesize the two into a single video file.

On iPhone, the spatial video is presented as a regular two-dimensional video, while on Vision Pro, it is displayed in 3D for a more stunning visual effect.
