Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 revealed: change TSMC 4nm foundry

As early as the beginning of the year, Qualcomm CEO Ann Monk confirmed in a media exchange that the next generation of flagship cell phone processor would be Snapdragon 8 Gen2.

Well-known digital blogger @数码闲聊站 revealed in the latest breaking news that this year's SM8475 (Snapdragon 8 Gen1 Plus) can be seen in the second quarter at the earliest. Meanwhile, the scheduling progress of SM8550 has been advanced.

He said this year can see Qualcomm's three generations of flagship cores dancing together, mainly depending on TSMC N4.

SM8550 not surprisingly corresponds to Snapdragon 8 Gen2, but, according to this meaning, the process seems to be 4nm.

If the final situate misses 3nm, then the possible reason should be the first wave of capacity by Apple, Intel in advance of the round, Qualcomm had to "second best".

In fact, for the process, we do not have to be too tangled. After all, Apple A15 is still 5nm process, but the performance, power consumption are perfected. This shows that the design and the subsequent tuning optimization is more important.

Back to Snapdragon 8 Gen2 itself, other foreseeable upgrades should include CPU/GPU architecture, integrated X70 baseband, Wi-Fi 7 support, etc.

Referring to these generations of Snapdragon 8 products, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 advance means that more than one phone with this CPU will be released or even listed by the end of the year.
