Future roadmap shows Microsoft plans to bring Android 13 and other new features to WSA

Microsoft is constantly making improvements to its Windows Subsystem (WSA) for Android. And in a recent roadmap on GitHub, the company lists new features coming to the platform, including Android 13, which just launched in August of this year.

Microsoft is serious about blurring the lines between Android and Windows. In addition to rolling out the Android 12L update that makes the Surface Duo and Duo 2 more like Windows, it now plans to introduce more features to the WSA that will make PCs more like, well, Android. as Windows Latest found out, the company posted a roadmap on GitHub showing what it wants to do with the WSA five new features it wants to implement on WSA, such as Android 13, file transfer, shortcuts, picture-in-picture and default local network access. The roadmap further details the features that are currently available and unavailable on WSA, but the release dates for the planned additions are unclear. And given the lack of details, it's also unclear which parts or elements of "Android 13" will make their way to the WSA.

This news comes after Microsoft released WSA's October 2022 Insider Build 2209.40000.26.0, bringing numerous improvements to various parts such as security, camera, general reliability and performance. Specifically, some of these include security updates to the Linux kernel, updates to Chromium WebView 105, and improvements to the camera HAL, security for graphics streaming, stability of the clipboard, and more.

Recently, it can also be recalled that the company has expanded the availability of WSA to more places, and according to the current list provided and updated by Microsoft, it finally reached 31 countries and territories. In addition, the Amazon Appstore has expanded the number of apps available on Windows to more than 20,000, making the platform even more enjoyable for those who want to experience more Android apps on their PC systems.
