The Witcher remake in the works, will use Unreal Engine 5

CD Projekt Red has announced that it is working on a remastered version of The Witcher. The Witcher remake will be built in Unreal Engine 5, the same engine that will be used for The Witcher 4. The game is in early development at Fool's Theory studio in Poland, and CD Projekt Red is providing full creative oversight for the project. Also, Project Canis Majoris, announced a few weeks ago, has been confirmed to be the same title as the remake.

The Witcher was the beginning of everything for us at CD PROJEKT RED," said Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt Red studio. It was the first game we made, and it was a big moment for us at the time. It feels just as important, if not bigger, to come back to this place and recreate the game for the next generation of players to experience it." Badowski added: "The project with Fool's Theory is equally exciting because some of the people there have worked on previous Witcher games. They know the source material very well, they know how much players are looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible, ambitious games. While it will take some time before we're ready to share more information and content about the game, I know it will be worth the wait.

According to VGC, Fool's Theory CEO Jakub Rokosz said, "I'm very happy that my career path has crossed over again with the companions I had while working together on The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3. Especially when it's a remake of a project so close to our hearts." Fool's Theory was founded in 2015 by AAA game development veterans. The Polish studio has worked on Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Outriders, Bode's Gate III and other games.
