Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PS5 physical disc reportedly has only 70MB of data

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available tomorrow on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox series X|S and Xbox One. Now, more details about the game's PS5 disc have come out, as some players have apparently managed to grab it early. According to a report from MP1st, the PS5 disc for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 only has 70MB of data. This means that the disc is likely to have only license data, with the rest of the game files needing to be downloaded separately.

According to screenshots shared by Destruction Games, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PS5 disc has 72.23MB of data and you must log into the PlayStation Network to download the rest of the files. Players generally purchase physical discs to avoid downloading additional files and storing them on their consoles. However, the physical disc for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 completely defeats the purpose of getting the disc. Aside from that, Call of Duty is notorious for its huge download volume and file size. According to a report by PushSquare, Modern Warfare 2 took up 151.5GB of storage space on the PS5 SSD after downloading and installing the day one patch. Owners of both the disc and digital versions will need to download and store such a huge game on their consoles, making the disc version almost pointless.

It is unclear if the PC and Xbox discs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will have the same dimensions as the PS5 discs. Given Activision's preference for Call of Duty on PlayStation, it is likely that the file sizes on Xbox and PC discs will be similar. Other than that, the file size of Modern Warfare 2 will only increase with updates and new content after the launch of game modes, props, maps, etc.
