Job posting suggests The Last Of Us online multiplayer may be free

Naughty Dog announced The Last Of Us as a standalone multiplayer title a few months ago during the 2022 Summer Games Festival. At the time, the developer shared only a few details about the game, with no mention of a release date, price or gameplay. Now, thanks to a working listing on Naughty Dog's website, there appear to be more details about the title. In the multiplayer announcement, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann had said, "The initial multiplayer model has evolved thanks to the team's ambition." Druckmann added that the multiplayer title is "in some ways bigger than its single-player counterpart."

Naughty Dog is looking for a Live Action Producer for an upcoming multiplayer title, according to a job posting. The producer will "work with producers, leaders and directors to understand their needs and develop processes to improve communication, scheduling and overall quality of life. The producer will work on a "multi-faceted game-as-a-service title," which is likely to be The Last Of Us multiplayer, as it is expected to be a live service game. The role also requires experience working on AAA free-to-play live service games, suggesting that the upcoming multiplayer game may be free-to-play. For obvious reasons, Naughty Dog did not reveal the name of the game, but it seems likely that the studio is hiring for The Last Of Us multiplayer.

Aside from concept art, Naughty Dog hasn't shared many details about The Last Of Us multiplayer. The game will have a huge map set in San Francisco and is expected to feature a lot of combat. Concept art for The Last Of Us' standalone multiplayer game led to a fan theory that claimed San Francisco had a quarantined area with a large Firefly presence. Many fans now believe that they may play as Fireflyers and fight hostile groups and infected people in the multiplayer.
