The new MacBook Air is coming: Bangs on the screen

Apple is expected to unveil a redesigned MacBook Air at its upcoming WWDC 22 developer conference on June 1. Ahead of Apple's official launch, concept artist Darvik Patel created hd renderings of the 2022 MacBook Air based on the clues he has so far.

The biggest change, according to the rendering, is the bangs at the top of the screen, similar to the 2021 MacBook Pro. This is followed by a white border around the edges and a keyboard at the bottom, a stark contrast to the traditional black layout of previous models.

It's not yet clear whether Apple will use white in these changes, but previous rumors have talked about bangs and the possibility of the 2022 MacBook Air being available in multiple colors.

Despite the bangs, Face ID is also not expected on the new MacBook Air, and the screen size will increase from 13.3 inches to 13.6 inches, with a possible 14.2 inch addition.

The rendering also shows the new MagSafe connector, which is similar to the one added to the 2021 MacBook Pro series. There's also a USB-C port on the side and a 3.5mm audio jack.

As it stands, even if we don't see the device at WWDC 22, the MacBook Air will get an update sometime this year. In fact, what remains to be determined is whether it will debut with an M2 processor, or an M1 Pro or M1 Max.

The normal assumption is that Apple will basically devote its September event to the new iPhone and AirPods Pro, and its October event will focus on the 2022 iPad Pro, leaving little time for the M2, MacBook Air or even MacBook Pro.

The good news, however, is that based on past MacBook Air prices, the starting price for the new MacBook Air shouldn't exceed 10,000. Officially, the MacBook Air with the M1 processor starts at 7,999 yuan, making it the most cost-effective single macOS laptop.

If this year's MacBook Air features an M2 processor, a big change in appearance, and a variety of colors, it's sure to see a year-over-year increase in sales.
