Microsoft releases August 2022 patch update for Windows 10 (KB5016616)

Microsoft has released an update to the August patch via KB5016616 for all supported versions of Windows 10. As you might expect, the August patch doesn't bring any new features. In addition to security fixes, KB5016616 adds a fix for an issue that affects the printing of files you submit to your printer. It also fixes a known issue related to the input indicator and language bar.

KB5016616 is now rolling out to all supported versions of Windows 10, including 21H2, 21H1, and Windows Server 20H2, putting the OS build into OS builds 19042.1889, 19043.1889, and 19044.1889.

The following is a list of all bug fixes and improvements:

  • Microsoft is reducing the resource contention overhead in high input/output operations per second (IOPS). This fixes performance issues encountered on some systems.
  • Microsoft is improving the OS upgrade experience. This update fixes the "button reset" feature.
  • Microsoft has fixed an issue that restricted the event logging channel and removed the EN-US language pack.
  • Microsoft has fixed an issue that prevented the Windows Troubleshooter from launching on the desktop. A bug affecting Bluetooth, WiFi, hardware, and other troubleshooting tools has been fixed in this latest update.
  • Microsoft is updating the "remove-Item cmdlet", which will now interact with the Microsoft OneDrive folder.
  • A bug that caused some docking stations to lose their Internet connection has been fixed.
    Microsoft is improving Windows 10's system to cache additional audio endpoint information.
  • Microsoft has fixed an issue where continuous playback of video clips could fail in games using DX12.
  • Microsoft has fixed an issue that caused Windows to crash when the Windows Defender Application Control feature was opened and the Smart Security Graph was enabled.
  • Microsoft has also fixed an issue where the Windows Profile Service occasionally failed.

KB5016616 also has some known issues, but the good news is that there are no major problems. Microsoft has also released workarounds so that you can fix these issues yourself. You can learn more about these known issues and fixes below.

Microsoft has also released August patches for Windows 11, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7.
