WD warns of severe shortage of HDD, SSD drives: price hikes across the board!

Recently, Western Digital sent a letter to its partners, its hard disk is or will soon be the whole line of price increases, please be prepared.

Scott Davis, senior vice president of Western Digital channel and regional OEM sales, said in the letter, Western Digital's entire line of HDD mechanical hard disk, SSD solid state drive products demand are exceeding expectations, is in a state of serious shortage, coupled with the supply chain of the entire industry is very tight, and therefore can only continue to increase prices.

Western Digital said the price increase involves various HDD, SSD product lines, some have been effective immediately, and will continue to adjust prices at any time according to the actual situation.

Western Digital also reminded partners, saying it is difficult to fully meet unplanned demand and orders, if there are changes need to be fed back as soon as possible, otherwise the delivery time can not be guaranteed.

Western Digital did not disclose the specific price increase, a source said HDD will increase prices by at least 5%, up to 10%.

SSD has no specific statement, but according to a recent report by Jibang Consulting, the global NAND flash memory market prices have risen in the first quarter of 23-28%, the second quarter will rise another 13-18%, so the price increase is bound to be much higher than the HDD.

In the global flash memory market, Western Digital/Armor Man is ranked third, after Samsung, SK Hynix, higher than Micron, and therefore has a considerable say in the price.
