Samsung memory technology suddenly behind! Decided to interrupt 12nm DRAM chip development: straight to 11nm

Samsung is not only the world's number one DRAM memory chip supplier, but also the most technologically advanced.

According to BusinessKorea, Samsung has asked its R&D staff to stop the development of 1b process DRAM chips, which means skipping 12nm and going directly across generations to 1c, or 11nm.

Samsung has set a very aggressive goal of completing and freezing the development of 11nm, sixth generation DRAM chips in June this year.

The previous statement was that Samsung 1b (12nm) DRAM chips were experiencing difficulties and couldn't get it right. But on the latest reports, it seems that this is not the case, of course, the ultimate reality of how, but also to take the physical mass production to speak.

The report points out that Samsung's move is aimed at reopening the technology gap with rivals SK Hynix and Micron, the reason being that Samsung is actually lagging behind its competitors in terms of 1a DRAM chip mass production.

In fact, this is not the first time that Samsung plans to "bend the curve" in DRAM chips, when rivals are engaged in 28nm DRAM, Samsung focus on the more advanced 25nm process, the result of high risk eventually led to high returns.
