Tutorial: By modifying the registry to let not meet the requirements of the computer upgrade Win11 22H2

Windows 11 22H2 will begin rolling out in fall 2022 and is expected to offer a number of improvements as well as some new features. So is your computer ready? Does it meet the upgrade requirements?

Win11 22H2 is an upgrade to a computer that does not meet the requirements by modifying the registry.

While Windows 11 22H2 won't really change hardware requirements, Microsoft has quietly enabled a registry that lets you check compatibility with upcoming updates.

If it's incompatible, you'll be given a list of reasons why, and Microsoft also provides links to support documentation for more information on compatibility issues.

The steps are as follows:

  1. Open the Windows Registry editor on a PC.
  2. In the registry editor, click the address bar and delete the address.
  3. Go to the Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators
  4. To check compatibility with 22H2, open NI22H2. NI stands for "Nickel" and 22H2 stands for newer versions.
  5. If you double-click the value, you'll notice "RedReason". If the value is NONE, your device is ready for a functional update.
  6. If you see something else, you won't be able to upgrade. This value depends on compatibility issues.

For example, if your device does not meet hardware requirements, you will see "TPM UEFISecureBoot" in "RedReason"

Also, you can see if updates are blocked by an application.

In addition, there is a string called "SystemDriveTooFull" that tells you how much storage is available to upgrade. If the value is 1, your device does not have enough storage space for 22H2 or later.

It is important to note that if you are not seeing NI22H2, then you are using a non-Win 11 home edition and this modification may not apply!
