Microsoft Surface Go fixes “No device to boot” startup error

After releasing the Surface Go 3 in September 2022, Microsoft is now rolling out a new firmware version for the first-gen Surface Go. The latest firmware September 2022 fixes the annoying "unable to boot device" boot error. Once installed, you should no longer see the error message, hopefully.

Surface Go owners won't see any changes other than fixes in the latest firmware update. This is its second firmware update; the last one rolled out in May. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft releases another firmware update for the Surface Go by the end of 2022. In the meantime, you can check out the full official changelog for the latest update below.

It's important to note that the latest firmware is rolling out to devices running Windows 10 May 2020 Update version 20H1 or later. Additionally, you'll get the latest firmware version in stages, which means not all Surface Go devices will receive the update on the same date. It may take a week or so to be open to everyone.

If you just received it on your Surface Go, here are some things you should keep in mind:

• Firmware updates cannot be uninstalled or reverted to earlier versions.
• When you install the latest update, you'll also get all previous updates if your Surface doesn't already have them. Only updates for Surface will be downloaded and installed.
• After installing the update, restart the device to complete the installation process. To restart the device, select the Start button, then select Power > Restart.

It will take a few days for the latest version of firmware to reach your Surface Go device. You can download and install the latest September 2022 firmware by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
