Microsoft releases emergency out-of-band update to fix AAD and Microsoft 365 login issues

Login problems with Azure Active Directory and Microsoft 365 occurred after installing an update released on The June 2022 patch Tuesday event day. Today Microsoft released an emergency Out-of-band (OOB) update that fixes this problem. You can use the Windows Update mode or download the installation package from the Microsoft Update Catalog for offline Update.

"Fixed a known issue that only affected Windows ARM-based devices and could prevent you from logging in using Azure Active Directory (AAD)," Microsoft explained. Applications and services logged in using AAD, such as VPN connections, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Outlook, may also be affected ".

The complete list of Windows versions affected by this issue includes multiple client platforms: Windows 11 21H2, Windows 10 21H2, Windows 10 21H1, and Windows 10 20H2.

According to the service alert issued to Microsoft 365 customers, some of the affected scenarios include, but are not limited to:

  • ● Applications and services that are logged in to using Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) When the VPN connection
  • ● Desktop Microsoft Teams
  • ● Enterprise OneDrive
  • ● Outlook desktop client

Microsoft added: "This OOB update is cumulative. If you are using an update released before June 14, 2022, we recommend that you install this OOB update. If you install an earlier update, only the new update contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device ".
