U.S. ups broadband definition: higher standards for upstream and downstream speeds

According to media reports, the U.S. has adjusted its definition of broadband, increasing both uplink and downlink speeds.

According to the United States redefinition of the value of the look: downstream speed from 25 Mbps to 100Mbps, upstream speed from 3Mbps to 20Mbps.

Currently broadband penetration in the U.S. is not as strong as expected; for example, nearly 28 percent of Americans in rural areas and more than 23 percent of those living on tribal lands do not have broadband.

Additionally, 45 million Americans do not have access to both 100/20 Mbps fixed services and 35/3 Mbps mobile 5G-NR services.

The latest data previously given by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showed that as of the end of June last year, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access subscribers of the three basic telecommunication enterprises amounted to 614 million, with a net increase of 24.68 million subscribers from the end of the previous year.

Among them, the fixed Internet broadband access users with access rate of 100Mbps and above amounted to 579 million, accounting for 94.2% of the total number of users, which accounted for 0.3 percentage point higher than the end of last year.

The number of fixed Internet broadband access users with access rate of 1000Mbps and above reached 128 million, a net increase of 36.12 million over the end of last year, accounting for 20.8% of the total number of users and breaking through the 20% penetration rate.
