Surface Laptop 3 and Surface Book 2 updated with security fixes and more

Surface Book 2 and Surface Laptop 3 were released in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Although they are more than three years old, firmware updates are still rolled out when needed. Both devices received an August 2022 firmware update that added fixes for security holes and other improvements. As you might expect, the latest firmware version has no new features.

Surface Laptop 3 (Intel Edition) is improving the stability of Surface Dock 2, fixes Wi-Fi issues, and also fixes security issues with the latest firmware update. Meanwhile, the latest firmware version for the Surface Book 2 doesn't include anything other than security fixes. Notably, Surface Book 2 devices running Windows 10 May 2020 Update version 20H1 or later will receive the update. The Surface Laptop 3, on the other hand, needs to be running Windows 10 May 2020 Update version 20H1 or later to receive the latest firmware.

Surface Book 2 August 2022 firmware

It's important to note that these firmware updates are rolling out in stages, which means that not all Laptop 3 devices will be upgraded at the same time. However, the latest version of the firmware will eventually be delivered to all Surface devices. But there are three things you should be aware of before proceeding with the download:

• Firmware updates cannot be uninstalled or reverted to earlier versions.
• When you install the latest update, you'll also get all previous updates if your Surface doesn't already have them. Only updates for Surface will be downloaded and installed.
• After installing the update, restart the device to complete the installation process. To restart the device, select the Start button, then select Power > Restart.

It will take a few days for the latest version of firmware to reach your Laptop 3 or Book 2 device. You can download and install the latest August 2022 firmware by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
