Siri may have leaked Apple’s next-generation HomePod

Although Apple has not made an official announcement, Siri appears to have revealed to some HomePod users that a new version of the smart speaker with a screen is on the horizon.

After discontinuing the first-generation HomePod last year in favor of the HomePod Mini, Apple has been secretive about their next smart speaker, but Siri doesn't seem to have gotten the memo about keeping it quiet.

According to Reddit user u/totalsoda, spotted by ScreenRant, Siri has been telling them that the answers to their questions are being "displayed on your HomePod," suggesting that the smart speaker has more than just a colorful light display when you speak.

While some users have been quick to dismiss this as a bug in Apple's voice assistant, others believe it may be an unintentional leak about a new HomePod in development that will have a screen to display information, similar to Google's Nest Hub and Amazon's Echo Show devices.

While it's unclear when, or even if, this next-generation HomePod will launch, this isn't the first time we've heard that Apple may launch a new smart speaker. Last year, Bloomberg reported that a new HomePod was in the "early stages of development," after also revealing that Apple was planning to combine the company's TV set-top box with a HomePod speaker.
