Microsoft further restricts Internet Explorer: access to OneDrive and other sites will be banned from January next year

Earlier this year, Microsoft officially discontinued support for Internet Explorer, a browser that has seen a lot of changes and has finally come to an end.

Recently, Microsoft announced that from January 2023, users will be prevented from accessing Microsoft's own OneDrive and SharePoint Online web pages through IE 11 or Edge's IE compatibility mode.

Microsoft said that this is to promote the use of these outdated browser users to upgrade to a "modern browser", which is based on Chromium Edge browser.

It is reported that this change will take effect in mid-January next year, when users access the web side of OneDrive and SharePoint Online, will not be the same as now allow users to choose to upgrade the browser or continue to use IE11, but mandatory upgrade to access.

After prohibiting users from using IE browser to access OneDrive, SharePoint Online and other websites in January, Microsoft plans to officially disable IE 11 from the system permanently in February, and Edge will become the only official browser of Microsoft.

However, since some programs still need to rely on IE to run, Microsoft will not remove all components of the browser.
