Huawei’s foldable screen share to overtake Samsung’s for the first time in Q1 Shipments soar 105%

Huawei's folding screen phone market share will surpass Samsung Electronics for the first time in the first quarter of this year, according to forecast data released by Display Supply Chain Consultant (DSCC), a display supply chain research firm.

According to DSCC's forecast, Huawei's folding screen phone market will grow 105% year-on-year in the first quarter, and its market share will reach 40%, while Samsung Electronics is below 20%.

In the first half of this year, Huawei's Mate X5 and Pocket 2 foldable-screen phones performed strongly in the market, while Samsung Electronics will be in a bitter battle due to the absence of new foldable products, DSCC said.

And Huawei purchased more screen panels in the second half of last year in order to expand its market share, so in the fourth quarter of last year, BOE's cell phone panel supply surpassed Samsung Display's, DSCC said.

However, DSCC concluded that Huawei and Honor will further increase their market share this year, but by launching new products in the second half of the year, Samsung Electronics is expected to take the top spot again.

A report by TrendForce Tiburon Consulting shows that Huawei holds 11.9 percent of the global folding screen market share in 2023, while the organization also predicts that Huawei could hold close to 20 percent of the folding screen phone market in 2024.
