Google launches Android 15 developer preview: more powerful power management

Google has officially released the Android 15 developer preview with improvements in power management as well as privacy. Google plans to launch the public beta in early spring.

The updates in the Android 15 Developer Preview are said to be related to the Dynamic Performance Framework, which helps manage how power-intensive apps interact with the phone's power system.

These tweaks are designed to help the device better respond to the demands placed on its GPU, CPU, and cooling system, as well as to help apps with long running background tasks run energy efficiently.

On the privacy front, the new system adds a new menu called "Ads" under the "Privacy and Security" section of Settings, where users can see which apps are tracking activity on their phone to display ads.

It's also worth noting that Android 15 is capable of partial screen recording, allowing users to record only the content of an app rather than the entire screen.

Additionally, Google is starting to make better camera optimizations for third-party apps, where images taken in low-light conditions will be processed in real-time to provide a bright preview, and third-party apps can also benefit from improved preview images.
