Square Enix sold Tomb Raider and other well-known IP and development studio

Square Enix's well-known Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, and as many as 50 IPs will be recently acquired by Sweden's Embracer Group (formerly THQ Nordic AB), and three other studios, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos, and Square Enix, are also included in the acquisition. The acquisition will also include Crystal Dynamics, Eidos and Square Enix.

It is reported that the amount of this acquisition is only $300 million, and if approved, Embracer will complete the acquisition in the second quarter of fiscal year 2022 / 2023. Compared to the well-known degree of Tomb Raider and other works, some people think that the amount of this acquisition is surprisingly small, but analysts point out that the net profit margin of these studios is quite small for Square Enix, so it is a reasonable decision on the business level.

Early last month, Crystal Dynamics announced that it would use Unreal Engine 5 to develop the new Tomb Raider, and plans to make a breakthrough in the game's fidelity. Whether this acquisition will affect the game's development is still unknown.
