Sony broke the news that Microsoft XGP users reached 29 million: far more than PS Plus

As British government agencies investigate further into Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Sony has begun issuing statements to stop the acquisition from going through.

According to Sony's announcement, Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service already has 29 million subscribers and is expected to grow significantly in the future, compared to Sony's own PlayStation Plus service, which is lagging behind in the number of subscribers.

In the announcement, Sony tried to portray itself as an "underdog", hoping to get the approval of regulators and thus prevent Microsoft from successfully acquiring Activision Blizzard.

In fact, Sony's PS Plus service is indeed less attractive to players than Microsoft's XGP service.

Unlike Microsoft, which puts all of its own first-party games, as well as a large number of third-party games into the XGP library, Sony does not have many first-party games, although it does provide a number of third-party games for the PS Plus membership library.

Even, Sony has officially said that its first-party games will not be added to the PS Plus game library at the same time as they go on sale, which is commercially understandable, but also really more unpopular with players.
