Intel XeSS increases the frame rate of Shadow of the Tomb Raider by 88%

With the continuous rise of game image quality and hardware requirements, NVIDIA and AMD have launched their own oversampling technology, and Intel, which has begun to set foot in the field of discrete graphics, has also come up with its own XeSS technology.

Today, the first technical test results of XeSS are finally announced, and the technology has achieved good results in the test.

The game used in this test is "Tomb Raider: Shadow", the hardware is Intel Arc A770 and NVIDIA 3070 graphics card, and XeSS 1.187, DLSS 2.3 and FSR 2.0 are compared and tested under different presets and resolutions.

After testing, in the XeSS performance mode, "Tomb Raider: Shadow" can achieve a frame rate improvement of 52% to 88%. In the 3DMark test with ray tracing turned on, turning on XeSS increases the frame rate by 177%.

At the same time, XeSS also has a "super quality" mode, in which XeSS will perform oversampling based on a higher base resolution, thereby improving the detailed performance of the picture.

In this mode, 4K and 2K resolutions of Shadow of the Tomb Raider can get a performance boost of 16% to 23%.

Overall, in "Tomb Raider: Shadow", the frame rate improvement brought by XeSS has been comparable to NVIDIA's DLSS 2.3, but in terms of rendering quality, XeSS still has some room for improvement.

At present, XeSS has supported more than 20 games including "Tomb Raider: Shadow", "Eternal Catastrophe" and "Death Stranding", and will add support for more games in the future.
