RX 7900 XTX scores out: easily beats RTX 4080

Earlier today, the first third-party benchmarks for the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX were leaked. To the surprise and shock of many, the GPU was rumored to really struggle against the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 as well as its direct competitor, the RTX 4080. This is the exact opposite of what AMD showed at its launch event.

However, new benchmark run scores have leaked, and it looks like the first set of results leaked earlier today severely underestimated the actual performance the new AMD GPUs can deliver. In the new OpenCL run, the AMD RX 7900 XTX has reached 228,647 points, 52% higher than the previous results. In this instance, the RTX 4080 is considered to be about 10-17.6% faster than the RX 7900 XTX.

Meanwhile, in the Vulkan API test, which should give a better idea of the game, the RX 7900 XTX is nearly 21% faster than the RTX 4080, which is quite a bit ahead. The new score is 96% higher compared to the previous results as the XTX scored 179,579 points.

These new results are more in line with what we estimated using AMD's own benchmark data. In short, the 7900 XTX's raster output falls between 4,080 and 4,090, although it lags behind the RTX 40 series GPUs when it comes to ray tracing.
