MediaTek officially announced the new smart TV chip “Pentonic 700”

On August 19, MediaTek officially announced the new smart TV chip "Pentonic 700", with built-in high-performance AI engine, for the new generation of high-end 4K 120Hz high score and high brush smart TV.

Pentonic 700 integrates MediaTek's AI APU processor and supports three major AI technologies.

• AI Super Resolution 2.0 (AI-SR 2.0): for image edge smoothing and detail reconstruction.
• AI-Scene Recognition 2.0 (AI-PQ Scene Recognition 2.0): for automatic optimization of image settings.
• AI-PQ Object Recognition 2.5: Enhances depth of field with different sharpness, contrast and color between foreground and background.

Especially worth mentioning is the Pentonic 700's built-in hardware video decoding engine, which not only supports the latest HEVC (H.265), AV1, VVC (H.266) formats, but even supports the domestic encoding standard AVS3.

AVS3 is China's third-generation HD video coding standard, released in October 2021, and has recently been approved by the Digital Video Broadcasting Organization (DVB Project) to become one of the next-generation video codec standards in the DVB standard system, which is also the first time for DVB to absorb Chinese video standards.

DVB's test results show that AVS3 can save 40.09% of bit rate compared to HEVC (H.265) with the same picture quality, praising it as one of the most efficient video coding technologies in the world.

Other aspects, the built-in hardware video decoding engine supports the latest HEVC (H.265), AV1, VVC (H.266) formats, and even the domestic encoding standard AVS3. richer image detail.

Supports Variable Frame Rate (VRR) technology, which supports up to 4K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate in gaming applications.

Supports HDMI 2.1 Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) to reduce display latency and combine Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision Gaming to create immersive gaming environments.

Supports HDR10+ Adaptive technology to optimize the viewing experience based on room lighting conditions.

Supports simultaneous display of local and networked multi-source images on a single screen in picture-in-picture (PiP) and split-screen (PbP) format.

Supports next generation voice assistant function and smart home device management.

Pentonic 700 also features a highly integrated design for higher energy efficiency, lower cost, and shorter time-to-market. Manufacturers can also choose MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 wireless connectivity solution for smoother and more stable 4K video playback.

MediaTek said the Pentonic 700-based smart TVs are expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2022.
