Microsoft officially warned: January 2023 end of support for Windows 8.1

Nearly 10 years after its release, Windows 8.1 is saying goodbye.

According to users concerned, they have received a pop-up warning from Microsoft that official security patches and technical support for Windows 8.1 will end on January 10, 2023.

Microsoft also gave three options -- learn more, alert later, or alert when support ends -- that seemed a little softer than its earlier heavy-handed approach.

Although Windows 8.1 is sandwiched between the more successful Windows 7 and Windows 10, as a remedy for the disastrous Windows 8, it is still favored by some users, who are reluctant to upgrade even after the free banner of Windows 10.

In fact, as of press time, Win8.1 legitimate users can still upgrade Win10 for free, the latter will support at least until 2025.

It should be noted that the discontinuation of support does not mean that the system cannot be used, but that there will be no free security patches and functional patches to be pushed later.
