Windows 11 new “replacement assistant”: the application can be restored after changing the computer

Microsoft said at the Build 2022 conference on May 24 EST that it will add an application restore feature to the Microsoft Store that will allow users to restore applications installed on their previous computers on a new computer. This feature is somewhat similar to Android's "Swap Assistant".

The existing Microsoft Store does not yet offer a way to automatically restore applications, requiring users to reinstall them manually or use third-party software to get similar switching capabilities.

Giorgio Sardo, general manager of the Microsoft Store, said that in order to make the transition to their new PCs faster and more seamless, Microsoft will soon test a new feature in the Windows Insider channel that will help customers automatically restore their previously installed applications.

In addition, this feature can also help software developers retain their customers without having to remind them to re-download their applications.

However, this application recovery feature cannot really make an impact yet, and more applications need to make their way to the Microsoft Store. In the past year, Firefox, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat Reader and other software have appeared in the application store.

But today there are still many applications missing. Microsoft to solve this problem, the abolition of the Win 32 application waiting list, has opened the store to all application developers.
