Microsoft Surface-exclusive AI features to be decentralized! All Windows 11 PCs will support

According to a new report from WC, all Windows 11 PCs will soon support this Surface-exclusive AI feature, Voice Clarity, without NPU support.

Recently, Microsoft released Windows 11 Build 26040 for insider users, which includes a number of feature improvements and fixes, with one notable change being the addition of Voice Clarity support on PCs without an NPU.

Voice Clarity is a new feature for voice noise reduction that allows users to hear each other more clearly by hardware integrating signals from multiple microphones and reducing background noise with advanced echo control.

Voice Clarity is powered by a low-complexity AI model that eliminates echo, suppresses background noise, and reduces reverberation in real-time. Since the technology doesn't rely on an NPU, it is technically able to adapt to most PC devices without making too many hardware requirements like other such noise reduction technologies.

The feature is said to be enabled by default and is available to apps that use communication signal processing modes such as Phone Link and WhatsApp.

Voice Clarity was previously limited to Surface devices, but from now on, all Windows 11 PC users will be able to use Voice Clarity.
