OPPO’s self-developed Tidal Architecture released: breakthrough chip energy efficiency bottleneck

OPPO released its self-developed Tidal Architecture at the Find X7 series technical communication meeting.

The official introduction, as a chip hardware and software fusion technology stack, the tide architecture builds a set of chip-level performance solutions from scene identification, to arithmetic demand, cache matching, to arithmetic scheduling, to solve the problems faced by the mobile platform of the separation of storage and arithmetic as well as chip scheduling, and to realize the flagship chip to maximize the performance of energy efficiency.

Through in-depth joint research and development with chip makers, OPPO has penetrated the Tidal Architecture into the on-chip cache system, which traditional handset makers are unable to use in a fine-grained way, and co-designed with chip makers the cache partitioning, dynamic CPU/GPU matching, and fast-tracking solutions for clean data.

With the Tidal Architecture, OPPO realizes for the first time the dynamic matching of system-level cache, dynamically allocating system-level cache resources for CPU and GPU in real-time based on computational and rendering tasks. With this unique technology, the Tidal Architecture can achieve an average energy efficiency gain of 8%.

In addition, the Tidal Architecture also supports a new on-chip scenario-level arithmetic and power analysis model that enables dynamic arithmetic and power evaluation and analysis based on a single scenario.

In addition, it dynamically disassembles each computing task into the power distribution of each computing unit on the chip in real-time to find the optimal combination of energy efficiency to achieve more competitive energy performance for a wide range of user applications.

By accurately and dynamically scheduling GPU power, the Tidal Wave architecture can also excellently control display latency, achieving an unprecedented smooth experience for Android flagships.

In a test that simulated 320 times of users launching apps in a day, the standard deviation of Find X7 equipped with Tidal Architecture was only 11ms, realizing a smooth performance that is more durable and stable than that of the same platform and other platforms.
