iPhone 16 say goodbye to mute paddles: replace capacitive buttons with more features

According to MacRumors, there's plenty of evidence that Apple's four iPhone 16 models launching next year will be fully equipped with action buttons.

The action button has appeared in several iPhone 16 prototypes, also appeared in internal documents related to the new device.

In the iPhone 16 series to be launched next year, Apple plans to add more functionality by changing the mechanical buttons to capacitive ones.

The functionality is expected to be similar to the Touch ID Home button on older iPhones or the Force Touch trackpad on the latest Macbooks.

Internal documents disclosed show that the updated action button will be equipped with a "force sensor" that detects changes in pressure, as well as a "touch-switch function", the specifics of which are not yet known.

The buttons will also be present on the cheaper iPhone SE fourth generation, which is scheduled for release in 2025, effectively eliminating the mute switch from all future iPhones currently in development.
