Apple AppStore pricing mechanism major upgrade: 700 new gears

Apple has announced the most comprehensive and significant pricing upgrade to the App Store since its inception, adding 700 new price points and new pricing tools for developers to more easily set prices and manage foreign currency exchange rate changes for different countries and regions of the App Store.

The upgraded pricing mechanism is available today for apps that offer auto-renewal subscriptions. Other apps and in-app purchases will be able to use the new pricing mechanism starting in spring 2023.

In the upgraded App Store pricing mechanism, all developers can choose pricing among 900 price points, nearly nine times the number of optional price points previously available for most apps. This includes 600 new optional price points and an additional 100 higher-priced price points available by application.

Price points will start as low as $0.10 and go up to $9,999.99 upon request. The range of price points available is greatly increased, and the price range is gradually increasing (e.g., $0.5 difference per slot below $10; $1 difference per slot between $10 and $200, etc.).

It is understood that Apple will regularly update pricing in each region based on changes in taxes and foreign currency exchange rates, and will update pricing based on publicly available exchange rate information provided by financial data agencies to ensure that pricing for in-app purchase content is balanced across all stores.
