The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update release date set

It's been two years since CD Projekt RED announced that an updated version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was in development, and with numerous delays, that version now finally has a firm launch date: December 14, 2022.

The project is a free upgrade for those who already own the popular top RPG, which now has more than 40 million players. While no further details of the improvements have been revealed, the studio has previously said that visual and technical upgrades, as well as increased ray tracing, and reduced load times will all be present in this version.

The next-gen version was originally expected to be released in the second half of 2021 with new DLC adapted from Netflix. however, CDPR later delayed pushing the update to 2022, and then earlier this year, the studio even removed any news about the updated version. The latter delay was also when CD Projekt RED took over development of the project from Saber Interactive.

The studio will host a live stream of the game and feature showcase on its social media channels next week. The exact time of the showcase has not been revealed.

The next-generation update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available on PC, Xbox series X|S and PlayStation 5 platforms, with a free upgrade for owners of previous-generation console versions. CD Projekt is also working on a remake of the original Witcher, as well as a new trilogy set in the same universe.
