Google Pixel 8 series leaked for the first time: early specifications, code names revealed

Just a month after the debut of the Pixel 7 series, leaks of the Google Pixel 8 have now started to emerge. According to WinFuture, the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be codenamed "Shiba" and "Husky" respectively. For reference, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are codenamed "Cheetah" and "Panther". It seems that Google is pursuing big dog names for next year's flagship phones after devising cat codenames for the Pixel 7 series.

Furthermore, WinFuture claims to know some key specs for the Pixel 8 series. Note, however, that these are very early specs that could change as the phones evolve. One of the guaranteed specs is the inclusion of Android 14, which should be codenamed "Upside Down Cake".

In addition, the Pixel 8 will reportedly feature a new processor with the codename "Zuma". This will undoubtedly be the Tensor G3 chipset. The leaked information may indicate that the Tensor G3 may have the same modem as the Samsung-made Tensor G2. However, the rest of the Tensor G3 chipset's specifications are not yet clear.

When it comes to the Pixel 8, the standard model could have a resolution of 2268 x 1080, while the Pixel 8 Pro could have a resolution of 2822 x 1344. The latter could have a QHD+ panel, while the base model could have an FHD+ screen. These resolutions make sense because the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 have 1080p panels. And the Pro model has a 1440p screen.

These are early leaks about the Pixel 8 lineup, but as we said above, these are very early details and there could be a lot of changes as we get closer to launch. We hope to know more soon, so stay tuned.
