After Musk took charge of Twitter, he immediately made a series of changes, before there were rumors that Musk would lay off 75% of his staff, a time when Twitter employees were on edge.

The company's employees have been worried for a while, but after Musk took over the Twitter building last week, he immediately gave his employees a "reassurance" that he did not intend to lay off 75% of his staff. Now, Musk did not go back on his word, and indeed did not lay off 75%, but 50%.

On Nov. 4, it was reported that Twitter employees received an internal email that Twitter will begin a company-wide layoff on Friday, Nov. 14, local time, and employees will receive an email notification at 9 a.m. on whether they will be fired.

According to an investment firm executive who received word from the Musk family office, about 50 percent of Twitter employees will be laid off.

However, the laid-off employees are not sitting on their hands, but are choosing the legal route to defend their rights.

Today, a Twitter employee filed a class action lawsuit in U.S. federal court in San Francisco on Thursday local time, alleging that Twitter violated federal and California law by initiating mass layoffs without giving adequate notice.

The U.S. federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires employers to provide at least 60 days' notice before mass layoffs.

The lawsuit calls for the court to issue an order requiring Twitter to comply with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act and to prevent the company from pressuring employees to sign documents that could waive their right to participate in the lawsuit.

For their part, Musk and Twitter, have not yet responded to this news with more information.
