Zhengzhou Foxconn implements 7-day area-wide static management, iPhone 14 Pro may be in short supply

A shortage of iPhones is likely in the coming weeks, with the iPhone 14 Pro most affected, following a new blockade triggered by the new crown outbreak in Zhengzhou and surrounding areas. The government has ordered a seven-day area-wide static management of Apple maker Foxconn's largest factory until Nov. 9, where more than 85 percent of iPhone 14 Pro production capacity is located.

A Reuters report noted the development, with a source who asked not to be named citing that Foxconn is looking to boost production at another plant in Shenzhen.

iPhone's largest factory production takes a hit

The potential production impact comes at a time when the electronics giant is often busy before the year-end holidays, a busy time for Apple. iPhone production is expected to take a hit of up to 30 percent.

According to market research firm Counterpoint, 80% of the capacity of the recently launched iPhone 14 series, including over 85% of the iPhone 14 Pro, is being handled by Foxconn's Zhengzhou plant.

Apple recently launched their highly anticipated iPhone 14 series, which includes four smartphones-iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Meanwhile, the tech giant's manufacturer recently started production of the iPhone 14 series at its Meanwhile, the maker of the technology giant recently began production of the iPhone 14 at its Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai, India.

In a recently published report, analysts at JP Morgan predict that Apple will shift 5 percent of its global iPhone 14 production to India by the end of 2022 and increase its manufacturing capacity to create 25 percent of all iPhones by 2025.
