With the sidebar users can access various productivity tools and can browse two websites at the same time without opening additional tabs.

The Microsoft Edge sidebar allows users to access productivity tools side-by-side in the browsing window. For enterprise customers, the following experiences are currently enabled by default: Search, Discover, Office.com, and Outlook.

Administrators can control availability and configure Microsoft Edge sidebars using HubsSidebarEnabled, ExtensionInstallBlockList and ExtensionInstallForceList policies. The extension ID for each sidebar application can be found at edge://sidebar-internals.
