iPhone 14 Pro model Dynamic Island can display sports scores in real time under iOS 16.1

Earlier this month, Apple announced that iOS 16.1 would enable a new Live Activites feature, which would allow iPhone users to see what's happening in real time, such as a sporting event or food delivery, with the screen locked. On the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, live events are also integrated with Dynamic Island.

For example, during a Premier League game, Smart Island will display a real-time updated scoreboard with the number of goals scored by each club. When long-pressed, the Smart Island expands to show elapsed time and live commentary action.

When the iPhone 14 Pro is locked, the score is displayed in a widget on the lock screen. On the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus and all other iPhone models without Smart Island, live activity is completely limited to the lock screen.

To test the feature on iPhones with the iOS 16.1 beta, users need to open the TV app and tap the "Follow" button for a supported game. At launch, Apple said the feature was available for MLB games in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, Brazil, Mexico, Japan and South Korea, while NBA and Premier League games were only available to users in the US and Canada. The feature will likely expand to other sports leagues in the future.

Apple says iOS 16.1 will be released later this year.
