The latest version brings support for Disney+ subtitles in picture-in-picture mode; Firefox 104 also adds a power analysis tool to help analyze a website’s power usage. Also, when the Firefox browser is minimized, the browser's UI will be throttled to improve computer performance and reduce power consumption.

At the same time, the Beta and Dev versions of Firefox 105 have been released at the same time, and Firefox Nightly has been updated to Firefox 106 at the same time.

Major improvements brought by Firefox 104

• UI throttling: To improve performance and battery life on devices running Firefox, the browser will throttle its UI when it is minimized or not obscured. The system works similarly to how Firefox restricts background tabs to limit battery consumption and improve browser and overall system performance.
• Power usage analysis: Apple M1 and Firefox for Windows 11 users can use the Firefox Analyzer to analyze a website's power usage.
• Other changes and fixes
  • Firefox's picture-in-picture mode now supports Disney+ subtitles.
  • The shortcut for pasting unformatted text, Shift-CTRL-V on Windows and Shift-CMD-V on Mac, now works in plain text contexts.
  • Bypassing an HTTPS-Only error page and then returning takes Firefox users back to the original site instead of returning to the error page.
  • The highlight color is preserved after "Enter in Yahoo Mail and Outlook's mail editor".
• Developer related
  • Firefox supports the methods Array.prototype.findLast(), Array.prototype.findLastIndex(), TypedArray.prototype.findLast() and TypedArray.prototype.findLastIndex()
  • The property SVGStyleElement.disabled can be used to disable or enable SVG style elements and check the status.
• Enterprise related
  • Overall cookie protection can be controlled through the Cookie Policy.
  • Removed security.insecure_field_warning.contextual.enabled preference (not in Firefox 102 ESR)
  • Added AddVersionPin policy, which prevents updating to a Firefox version newer than specified.
  • Added GoToIntranetSiteForSingleWordEntryInAddressBar policy to force direct intranet site navigation.

Additionally, Mozilla will release the next major version, Firefox 105, on September 20, 2022.
