More and more Intel processors are being removed from support by Apple macOS

As Mac products increasingly switch to M-series processor platforms, Apple's support for older x86 or Intel processors is starting to become disenchanted.

The last generation of macOS 12 Monterey system stopped supporting Mac products from the 2012, 2013 and 2014 generations, involving third-generation Core (Ivy Bridge) and fourth-generation Core (Haswell).

The good thing is that because Monterey retains support for the 2013 Mac Pro (Ivy Bridge) and 2014 Mac mini (Haswell), it makes it relatively smooth for folk to port the new system to the old platform.

However, the latest macOS 13 Ventura is not so generous, and none of the pre-7th generation Cores (Kaby Lake) have been spared and have been abandoned. Behind the scenes, Apple has even removed many of the motherboard/USB/Ethernet controller drivers, etc. needed to light up the system for older processor platforms, modified the Metal API rendering stack, etc.

Fortunately, the folk have moved on, and the famous OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) developers say that while the work has been difficult, some progress has been made, including the use of Rosetta 2 to bypass AVX2 instruction set restrictions, and the success of driving graphics programs on the 2014 5K Mac, 2012 Mac mini, and even the 2008 Mac Pro. Mac Pro.

Currently, macOS 13 Ventura is in Beta, with the full release coming in the fall.
