Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 release time finalized

On July 20, Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon W5 Gen1 and Snapdragon W5+ Gen1 chips for 4nm wearable devices. Following this, Qualcomm revealed the date of its next Snapdragon Summit, scheduled for November 15-17 in Hawaii.

At the Snapdragon Summit, the long-rumored Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be unveiled for the first time. It is reported that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be manufactured by TSMC 4nm process technology, model SM8550.

Unlike Snapdragon 8, which uses "1+3+4", Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 uses a new "1+2+2+3" eight-core architecture design, namely a single-core Cortex A73, two Core Cortex-A70, two Cortex-A710 and three Cortex-A510.

According to digital blogger @i Ice Universe, several major manufacturers have been cutting into the test 8550 (Snapdragon 8 Gen2), and so far, the 8550 will have at least 15% improvement in overall energy efficiency over the 8475 (Snapdragon 8+).

It is worth mentioning that Qualcomm has announced the next generation Snapdragon 5G modem, Snapdragon X70, which supports 10Gbps 5G peak download speeds and will be integrated into Snapdragon 8 Gen2.

From the current news, Xiaomi 13 series, Samsung S23 series, Samsung Flip5 and Fold5 series will all be equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen2 processor.
