Intel optimized 12 generation Core CPU web page performance: reduced power consumption by 4.2%

In addition to upgrading the Intel 7 process and Golden Cove architecture, Intel introduced its first hybrid architecture to the desktop x86, with eight performance cores and eight energy efficient cores, each suitable for different workloads.

But this brings up more complex CPU optimizations, including those for Web browsers -- 60% of the average person's computer time is spent on the Web, and Google's Chrome browser is the world's most popular browser with more than 63% of the time, so Intel's optimizations are focused on Chrome.

In the hybrid architecture of the 12th generation Core, optimization of CPU scheduling involves scene detection, scheduling strategy and operating system support. Intel has made a lot of optimization on these three issues.

The end result: On the Chromebook, the 12 Generation Core processor uses 4.2% less CPU power in the package and 3.8% less CPU power in the AD process if the web space process is scheduled to the energy efficient core.

If four browser tabs are open and the workload is placed on the performance core, the CPU package power consumption is reduced by 0.9%, and the power savings are even greater if there are more tabs and background pages.

A power consumption of 0.9 to 4.2 percent may not sound like much, but for mobile platforms, it could extend the battery life of a laptop.
