Performance increased by 66% Super 804MB cache: AMD’s new version of 64-core EPYC launched at the end of the month

AMD late last year launched a new version of its EPYC 7003 series of EYPC processors, codenamed Milan-X, still with the 7nm Zen3 architecture and up to 64 cores, but with a 3D V-Cache cache with a total capacity of up to 804MB and a performance increase of up to 66%, and now the series will be available in March.

Dan McNamara, senior vice president and general manager of AMD's server business unit, confirmed this in an interview, saying that the CPU, codenamed Milan-X, is being sampled to customers and that the product is expected to be launched by the end of this month.

Considering previous revelations that the consumer-grade Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor is also available by the end of this month, this means that AMD's 3D V-Cache-enhanced Zen3 processor will finally be fully available.

AMD's Milan-X processors include four models, 64-core EPYC 7773X, 32-core EPYC 7573X, 24-core EPYC 7473X, 16-core EPYC 7373X, the three-level cache from the original up to 256MB unified increase to 768MB.

If you include the 4MB first-level cache, 32MB second-level cache, a 64-core EPYC, it has a horrible 804MB cache, dual-way is almost 1.6GB!

As for the performance improvement, AMD said that more cache can greatly reduce the system memory bandwidth pressure, the same 16-core Milan-X, Milan, Synopsys VCS on the actual test EDA RTL verification workload, the performance improvement of up to 66%.

The EPYC 7003X series has won new solutions from Microsoft, Dell, Lenovo, HP and, Supermicro, Cisco and many other customers.
